About Our Practice

When Was the Last Time You Enjoyed Going to the Dentist?

According to a recent survey, 41% of Texans don’t see a dentist as often as they would like, beating out general practitioner (23%), dermatologist (28%) and psychiatrist (16%). Meanwhile 85% of Texans believe oral health is very or extremely important to their overall health, yet only 25% are extremely satisfied with the health of their mouth, teeth, and gums.

Why this difference? It’s likely because many Texans simply haven’t had a good experience at the dentist.

It’s Time for a Change

At Hancock and Johnston we believe everyone deserves a beautiful, healthy smile at a reasonable price. No insurance? No problem. Many of our patients choose our practice because they trust in our team, experience and reputation.

Our Mission: Provide exceptional service regardless of coverage so every patient feels safe, and leaves feeling better about their oral health.

No Insurance Hassle

For starters, we don’t rely on insurance for revenue unlike many dental practices in Lubbock. There are problems when customers of a dental clinic are insurance companies and not the local community.

1. For example, managed care incentivizes dentists to rush, churning through more patients per hour just to turn a profit. This reduces overall quality and prevents dentists from providing a personalized treatment plan. It also means less small talk and building a relationship with our patients.

2. No insurance company covers 100% of dental care. Many plans deny all cosmetic treatments (teeth whitening, bonding, veneers). Even orthodontics are seldom covered or your plan may have many exclusions such as not covering braces/invisalign for adults.

3. Insurance can also force a dentist’s hand, such as recommending certain procedures that are affordable, but not in a patient’s best interest. Case in point, amalgam fillings for cavities. 50% of an amalgam filling is mercury, with silver, tin and copper making up the rest. Our practice never uses amalgam fillings and always uses composite fillings. However, research shows many insurance plans only cover or strongly recommend amalgam fillings.

At Hancock and Johnston Dentistry, we don’t rely on insurance for the reasons above. Instead, our clinic aims to provide a better patient experience and comprehensive oral care, developing smiles for a lifetime. Every treatment plan comes down to what’s best for you, not an insurance company.

New Patients are Welcome

We make accessing top-quality dental treatment easier than ever, and our practice is always accepting new patients. Complete paperwork online and schedule an appointment a few weeks in advance. We understand life is full of surprises and planning for the dentist is often the last thing on your mind. When you need us, we do our best to be available.

Many other clinics require 6 months before a routine cleaning, checkup, or dental filling. We want to prevent delayed treatment due to schedule conflicts and what about emergency situations? If an accident occurs like a knocked out tooth, severe pain, or prolonged swelling you need to see a dentist right away. At our practice, chances are we can treat you sooner rather than later–helping you avoid complications and unbearable pain.

Unmatched Patient Care

At Hancock and Johnston Dentistry, our patients come first. No exceptions. And as part of this philosophy, we believe in providing unparalleled levels of patient care and education. That’s why our hygienists are highly skilled and trained to use the latest technology to educate and diagnose early signs of periodontal disease before problems occur.
